Sitting on the fence on what diameter to get in the K Drill. I fish mostly panfish on the Metro lakes here, but will try for walleyes throughout the season. What diameter would you guys recommend 6" or 8"? Can you really fish walleyes with the 6"?

I personally would not want to fish a 6" hole even for panfish, unless you are going to drill a second hole right next to it for your sonar. I bought a 8" k-drill this winter, and so far my 20v dewalt hammerdrill has plenty of power for it. The 8" hole has nearly double the surface area (201" versus 113") compared to the 6" hole. This extra surface area really comes into play when the ice gets thick and your hole isn't perfectly vertical.

Just a note. Area of a circle is radius squared x pi, not diameter squared. 6" = 28.26 square inches, 8" = 50.24.

6 is awesome. Run it for my panfish and perfect for eyes on Red, Mille Lacs, Leech, and Bemidji.

I love the six inch for running and gunning panfish, but I do run an 8" KDrill on my powerhead for when I am fishing walleyes. I don't mind the 6" Hole for walleyes, as long as the ice isn't too thick. Once the ice gets thicker, I've lost fish trying to turn their heads up a 6" hole.

I run a 6" & it works well for the panfish, couple of times I have connected holes to put a tip-up down. I believe next year I am going to buy the 8" drill also so I can switch them out for whatever I am chasing that day .

My mistake on the math! I used diameter instead of radius. Thanks for catching it!
