Which DeWalt drill model to use - 12/31/2017 04:09 PM

I'm new here at the form.

I'm trying to find out which model number DeWalt drill is best for the K-Drill on a Clam Auger Conversion Plate?

Best bet is a 900 series brushless model. I run a 990 with two 20 volt, 4 amp batteries.

5.0 amp hour battery would be a nice touch.

The DCD 996 is strong and reliable. I have 5 ah batteries and a couple 4's. Brushless makes it battery efficient and it is 25% more power than my 995 which is just fine too.

Is any drill TYPE best? Drill Driver, Hammer Drill or Impact Driver?

Impact drivers or impact wrenches don't work because you need to have smooth, steady rotation for ice auguring, and lack the chuck for attachment. Either a hammer drill, set in the drilling position (not hammer) or a drill with 20V Max batteries is used. The main thing is to not buy a Compact, They are not designed for high torque application and won't last.

Consult with a consultant in the store, he should know!

Describe the function, which is direct drive auguring 6 inch holes in ice so that he understands the demands on equipment.
