MN - Metro Area Fishing - 01/12/2017 02:36 PM

Haven't heard a lot from the metro area fishermen. Whose has been out and where are you heading to? Trying to get out onto White Bear this weekend. Waiting on the new K drill and want to try it out. Any other lakes around the cities getting attention?

I've been out on quite a few lakes over the last few weeks. Everything from Chisago Area, to Prior Lake, to Minnetonka, to White Bear, to Annandale area... just about all reaches of the Metro, lol.

Chisago Area has a great bite going for panfish, pretty consistent. Prior Lake is another one, same with Minnetonka. Both have excellent ice conditions too. Clearwater out in Annandale as been good for better size fish, but you need to move around a lot more. Linwood up in Anoka county is kicking out a good numbers, also a good bet for a few pike on tip-ups.

The cold weather over the last couple weeks really formed some ice, so things are looking good. However, with the warmer temps predicted today through middle of next week, we're going to see some of the drive-on accesses get a little soupy. Main lake ice is in great shape, I'm just not a big fan of 40 degrees in January! Go away!

Otherwise it will at least be comfortable to fish in! smile

Cousin coming down this weekend. Looking at lakes in the Chisago area. South Lindstrom is probably where we will end up. Wanted to try this last year and ended up on North Lindstrom.

40 deg temps are a blast to fish in, just makes a mess of everything. Oh well, it could be -40.........

You'll do just fine on South Lindstrom. Don't be afraid to venture down into Chisago as well... the bluegill bite on that end has been really good lately... good luck!

Made it out to South Lindstrom this weekend. Tried everything to get them off the bottom. Kept moving around the lake and ended up with 15 between 2 of us. Lot of water on top of the ice!!

If you're heading to Chisago area, North & South Center lakes have been giving up good numbers of crappie (8-11" range in size, 14-17 FOW). Pike fishing with flags has been good as well (10-12 FOW). Not seeing too many Eye's as of yet, gill bite has been tight-lipped in the areas I've targeted.

Tight Lines!

Thinking about South Center for this weekend. Is this an evening bite for the crappies, or is it the whole day? If its an evening bite, we may try another lake in the area, then head to South
