What's the best way to go when fishing a light weighted lure such as the guppy flutter spoon? I'm imagining this to be a very slow falling bait and any pound test over 3 would seem to be way too much? Also with using light line should your drag be set very loose so you don't snap off on the hookset? What's the best way to fish light spoons?

I think you're hitting some good points. I've had a chance to use the Guppy Spoon a few times last winter and I used 3 pound mono line. I also fished in less than 20 feet of water so I guess you could say I was relatively shallow. It seemed to drop just fine. Of course not as fast as we're used to when using a "jigging spoon" but most flutter spoons are designed to fish slow and entice the fish on the fall sequence.

I would match the Guppy Spoon with 2-4 pound test line and fish it on a light to medium-light action rod (4 pound line on the ML action if you choose).

For me, it serves its purpose mostly for panfish and perch, not so much walleyes, so unless you tie into a "bonus fish" I think the drag system on most panfish setups will work just fine.

All that said though, the Guppy Spoon caught A LOT of fish last winter! I actually already have one tied on smile

That clears it up, thanks. Which color did you have the best results with?

I used the silver and the red... both worked well. I plan to buy a couple more colors to play with though...

What Matt said is spot on. I like 2 - 4lbs test and rarely fish any deeper than 20ft with a small flutter type spoon. I like to fish heavy tungsten baits, but when the fish stop biting and only seem to want to follow I'll drop a flutter spoon on them and they almost alway take it. I'm excited to try the new Guppy Flutter spoon, looks like a deadly perch and crappie spoon. I bet it'll pick up a few trout too.
