DNR Fisheries Survey

DNR Fisheries Survey - 11/13/2016 04:44 PM

If you're not seeing the ideal fish size reports you would like to for a specific lake, would you still take the time to fish it?

Is data 7+ years old still reliable? Appreciate any input.

Usually, when I get old data (4-10 years old) I look at the sizes of crappies and try to visualize the same class just x amount of years older.

Still give the lake a try. There are many outdated surveys on the dnr website and you never know the size and quantity of fish until you fish the lake yourself. However, it is a great tool to give you a look at what that lake is capable of producing size wise. Also don't be discouraged by small fish in the survey. Many times lakes can change over a few years and can start over with a whole new year class that grows better than what was previously surveyed. Another helpful hint is to look at the recent stocking numbers. This is usually the most updated number on the surveys and if you see a recent stocking of adults you could have yourself a secret hot spot.
