Thanks for the advice, especially on the thin ice areas. Does the ice get thin in these areas due to the higher volume of water?
Also, is there a way to identify location of cribs other than word of mouth?
Current is what thins the ice in narrow areas on some waters and a chain of lakes like Namekagon is part of could be subject to that. Best to stay with established travel routes that others use or test the ice with a chisel as you walk if you're not sure.
The cribs should be on lake mapping chips, or try asking local bait shops or the Lake Assn. for info.
